WORKING IN LOCAL SETTINGS FOR OVER 30 YEARS
Heather is a Children’s Ministry consultant for her own church and often preaches – she leads a home group. Nick is based in Oxford, Children’s and Families leader at his local Baptist Church. He leads holiday clubs, after school clubs, an intergenerational home group and a primary schools RE project.
Nick and his family have lived in Oxford for many years. Nick is the Children and Families Leader at Headington Baptist Church. The church has between 100 and 150 young people connected to it, with a Sunday morning attendance of about 100 over the two services. He runs ‘Powerpack Weekly’ after school club for about 30 children from a range of schools. Nick is the leader of an intergenerational discipleship group, where children and adults eat, explore Bible, worship and pray together; the aim of the group is to connect with local families. Nick is also the leader of REInspired in Oxford. This team aims to bring the best RE lessons to local schools. Other roles in Oxford include working with CYM as a tutor, part of the Love Oxford team and local consultancy/training work.
HBC Holiday Club
Every year Nick and a huge team from Headington Baptist lead our annual Holiday Club. This involves about 50 leaders and 150 children. It is always an action-packed, fun-filled, God-encountering time.
Nick leads community-based events in Headington. He is part of the team that organise the Headington Funday, and is the leader of the annual Advent Pageant, with 250 school children and in 2014 he launched Headington Live Advent – 24 performances over 24 days in 24 different locations. Nick is the local co-ordinator of REInspired in the Headington area.
WORKING WITH CHURCHES
Throughout the year the Powerpack team support, encourage and train teams in churches, work with groups of children and lead all-age events. This could be bringing a team to lead a children’s work for church weekend. It could be leading a training day or acting as a consultant for senior leaders and children’s ministry teams. It could be (and often is) a combination of these, with an opportunity to model the training that’s happened working with children and their families.
Church Weekends with children are often led by Nick Jackson and a team from Powerpack. This could involve a Friday night session, two or three sessions on Saturday and one or two on Sunday. It may also include some training or workshops. Full details can be accessed here.
