You may have seen lots in the news about race and racism.

However, our God is a God of Justice and we are called to “walk justly” in this world.

Here is a resource exploring what the Bible says about Justice which I hope can be a helpful starting point for you. Download here

Today’s service is looking at 1 Peter 3:8-22.  James is talking about how we can live a righteous life in Jesus.  We can do what’s right.  So while he talks or during the week watch the videos and think about how you might live like Jesus.

Just for Fun!
Kid President

This is kid president – its just for fun!  He encourages people to be better – in some ways like Peter is encouraging people to live righteously.

Meet Ciara

Ciara was at a Powerpack camp and wanted to hear what God was saying, she found passages in the Bible to share and spoke to 1000 people – she encourages us to shine brightly – to live righteously.

Daniel 1

At Holiday club, Nick told the story of Daniel and his friends – they lived righteously in Babylon – they put God first and trusted God to protect them.  It must have been hard to live the way God wanted in a foreign land.

Wanting To Be Righteous?

Douglas talks about doing what is right and doing the right thing.  I wonder how hungry we are to be righteous?

What Can I Do?

Remember the Googly Eyes from ages ago – fix your eyes on Jesus?  I think that verse if helpful for thinking about being right with God!  I think our families have forgotten about keeping eyes on Jesus – its time to spread more eyes round the house!  Go on go for it!

All believers were together and shared everything

This week’s online service is a guest service.  It’s focus is to encourage us, but also give people who view it a taster of our church life.  Nick is briefly sharing what happens with children and families. at HBC.  Thsi week’s activities think about the kind of church that welcomes people, just like teh church in Acts – we want to be a place of welcome, a place of support and a place that points to who Jesus is.

So there is a set fo activities thinking about Acts 2 verse 44. Download here

Sunday 7th June, 2020 // Eyes On Jesus

This week Chris is speaking from Psalm 46 ‘From Fear To Faith.’ We’re going to think about Hebrews 12 verse 2:  We must keep our eyes on Jesus, who leads us and makes our faith complete.

So rather than look at trouble and fears let’s look to Jesus.  When we ‘look’ we see what Jesus is like, he is peace, kindness, hope, light in the darkness and freedom. If we use our eyes to look at Bible verses and learn what Jesus is like, it helps us to grow in faith.

For today’s service you may want: Googly Eyes PDF, scissors and blue tac.

Sunday 24th May, 2020 // Being Thankful

I wonder what you are thankful for?  If you had one minute to say a list fo things how many could you come up with?  It reminded us of Ernie and the verse from Romans 12 verse 12 ‘ Be joyful because you have hope. Be patient when trouble comes, and pray at all times.’

Sunday’s verse is: James 1:2-4 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.

I think being thankful helps in all circumstances.  being thankful allows us to connect with God and experience His joy in trials and difficulties.  It’s not always easy to keep being thankful, it takes perseverance!

May 24th – Being Thankful

Remember the Thanks Banks from a service back in January?  Nope?  These were pots you can put notes/things you are thankful for and then take them out and give thanks to God.  You can make a new one or restart one if you have one.

Sunday 17th May, 2020 // Power Of God For Salvation

Sunday’s verse is: I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes.  Romans 1 verse 16 – Look it up!

The verse speaks about how we should not be ashamed – we should know that when we share the good news (the gospel) God’s Power is at work.

I wondered what is in your house that uses power?  How many things in each room use power?  which uses lots of power?  Maybe you have a smart meter and can see!  Just for un why not try this Power Quiz!

Power Quiz
Click through the slides, for 10 points guess what the powerful thing is, then if you need to reveal another part you get 9 points; 8 if you need the whole thing.  Keep your own score and if you want you can challenge a family member.

Romans 1:16 POWER!

God’s power is much bigger than electricity in our house, or the power in the images in the Power Quiz.  It saves people!  Our job is to share this Good News and he brings the POWER!  Today the challenge is how do we share the Good News when we are pretty much at home? Here’s two little things we can do maybe you can think of more:

Share the services and talk on social media. Links are here: Website //  Facebook // YouTube

Colour a poster for the window of your house – here are some templates to choose from.

Sunday 10th May, 2020 // The Good Shepherd

This week’s title is: ‘From Lost To Found’ but instead of talking about the Lost Sheep, James is sharing about the Good Shepherd from John 10:

“I am the good shepherd; I know my sheep and my sheep know me – just as the Father knows me and I know the Father—and I lay down my life for the sheep.

Here is a video of Robbie, from Scotland, sharing about life as a Young farmer.  It’s interesting when he says a shepherd he needs to be patient!  I think God is patient with us all.

You can download an A4 set of activities here.

This week has lots of activities based on the Good Shepherd passage created by Together at Home.  Feel free to do in advance of print and have ready fro Sunday.

Sunday 3rd May, 2020 // God’s Royal Family

This week’s title is: ‘From Mortality To Eternity’ and Chris is sharing from Psalm 103:13-19.  For Transformers I’ve taken the first few phrases about God being a Father and the last few about Him being King!  In the Psalm children who follow His way belong to His family and he rules in heaven.  So I thought it’s a good opportunity to get Royal’. Because we are children of the King!  So we are royalty (or a royal priesthood.)

So here is a video of me explaining what craft stuff you need for Sunday.  And here is a link to watch how Mia Thermopolis discovers she is royalty and how she changes to be her new role in The Princess Diaries.  Our God has asked us to be in His Kingdom and represent His kingdom – how will you do that?

Download The Info

You can download an A4 set of activities here.
For Sunday you will need:
– scissors, a strip of card (yellow or gold would be ace!), glue stick and decoration.
– you can also print the banner label to stick on the crown.

You may also want to get bread and juice ready fro communion if you are taking this with your grown-ups.

Sunday 26th April

This week kicks off with the title ‘From Despair To Hope.’  What do we put our hope in? Not sure how you are feeling – but lots of people I talk to say they are bored and miss their friends!  We hope to spend time with everyone, hang out at church and get back to what we used to really enjoy.  Chris is talking in his sermon about Psalm 42 and 43.  They have a little phrase that says:
Why, my soul, are you downcast?
    Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
    my Saviour and my God.

Have look in the BIble in Psalms 42 and 43 – how many times does it appear?

In the puppet skit, Ernie is encouraged by a different verse, a verse from Romans 12 verse 12 – maybe while Chris talks you could remember things you are thankful for, create your own puppet sketch with teddy-bears or colour in this verse. (affliction means trouble!)

How can you be Hope?

There is a Greek myth about Pandora who has a box.  She frees illness, sickness, death, anger and sadness in to the world.  But then freed Hope so the world could cope with the trouble.  As Christians we have a much better, bigger Hope! Because Pandora sounds a bit like Pandemic (and Panda but nevermind!) we can think of what would God want to set free through us during this pandemic?  Maybe Peace? Maybe Hope? Maybe Love? Maybe Joy? Maybe Glory? what would God like you to release?  It says in Ephesians 5:8 You are Light in the Lord; walk as children of Light!  That’s you?

  1. Make a ‘Pandemic Box’ filled with ideas of how you can be a ‘Child Of Light’ during this time.  Maybe encouraging others, praying for people.
  2. Hope is fantastic – colour this Bible verse Hebrews 11 verse 1

The previous sessions are now in on Archive Page.

Sunday 19th April

This week kicks off with the title ‘From Worry To Peace’ At the start of the service I’m telling the story of the men on the walk to Emmaus.  Why not read it in Luke 24.  This would be a good set of activities to do while James speaks.  Together At Home have created a set of things that would work well about Jesus appearing to His disciples.  Take a look. Jesus appears to his disciples Together At Home

The previous sessions are now in on Archive Page.

Easter Sunday Transformers

This week is an all-age service.  What that looks like when we are in lockdown I have no idea – but Chris is planning away and I have filmed an Easter Garden reflection for you to do in the week following and send pictures in for the service on 19th April.

The previous sessions are now in on Archive Page.

Take a look at Together At Home, my friend Jess is creating some great resources.
